More than half of UK dog owners wouldn’t be in a relationship with someone who doesn’t like dogs, new research from The Kennel Club has found.
We’re a nation of dog lovers, but it seems that our four-legged friends are even helping us decide who to date. In fact, the dog welfare charity discovered that two thirds (67%) of owners proudly admit that their dog is their best friend, while (46%) would rather have a night in with their four-legged friend than to go on a date.
As well as this, one in five (20%) said they would only choose an internet date with someone if there was a dog in the photo. It seems to be a deal-breaker for some, but is it for you?

With love in the air around Valentine’s Day, the charity is urging owners to be careful when choosing a new furry friend explaining that “dog ownership isn’t completely dissimilar to a relationship in other ways”.
Bill Lambert, a spokesperson for The Kennel Club, said: “A dog needs long-term commitment which comes with compromises and changes to your life. We would urge anyone considering getting a dog to first ask themselves if they are really ready for the responsibility and commitment of having a four-legged companion – which you certainly can’t ‘ghost’ or dump if you don’t want to see them anymore.

“Dog ownership has numerous benefits, including improved physical and mental health, and in many ways dogs bring to our lives similar benefits to human partners – love, comfort and support during challenging times.”
