Despite Taliban’s rule over Kabul, the US Treasury Department allowed food, medicine and vital humanitarian aid to be exported to Afghanistan on Friday.

In a public statement, Andrea Gacki, director of the Department of Foreign Assets Control, said the department was committed to supporting the flow of “humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan and other activities in support of their basic human needs.”

The Treasury Department issued two licenses – one authorized the US government, the UN, and a number of NGOs to provide humanitarian aid to Afghanistan through the country’s new overlords, the Taliban.

The second enables aid agencies and individuals to export food, feed, medicines and medical equipment to Afghanistan.

Both the US and the UN still refer to the Taliban as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist Group.

The Taliban regime in Kabul has not achieved international recognition as the legal successor to the previous US-installed government in Kabul.

US sanctions are currently preventing Afghanistan’s billions in currency reserves from falling into the hands of the Taliban.
