A cat and two family dogs died Thursday after a house fire at Orchid Court in Toms River.
Toms River police said officers and firefighters arrived on site at around 10:20 a.m. and saw the house go up completely in flames.
Two residents of the house were there when the fire started but luckily they were able to get out safely and call 9-1-1.
Police evacuated nearby houses as a precaution and no injuries were reported.
Toms River Animal Control rescued a cat from an adjacent home.
The fire was brought under control and extinguished by the Toms River Fire Companies, who kept fleas from spreading to adjacent homes on the property.
The American Red Cross was there and supported the family, who had been displaced in the meantime.
Police said the cause of the fire is being investigated by Charles Bauer, the Toms River fire inspector, but is currently not considered suspicious.
