Online resource center offers downloadable content for veterinary clinics

AKRON, Ohio, October 20, 2021 / PRNewswire / – To educate consumers and new pet owners about the costs of bringing a dog or cat into the home, the ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance Program has developed a “cost wheel” available to veterinary clinics. The interactive tool is free to view and order online through the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance Veterinary Resource Center, which also contains an extensive library of content for veterinary staff and customers.

“The ‘Cost of Care Wheel’ can be used to facilitate important conversations about finances, which are often seen as an uncomfortable topic for veterinarians who focus on getting the best possible care for the animal,” said Gina Fortunato, AVP of Veterinary Services, Crum & Forster Pet Insurance Group ™, provider of ASPCA® animal health insurance.
The “cost wheel” contains information based on actual claims data for accident, illness and preventive care bills submitted over a five-year period for nine popular dog breeds and five cat breeds. The wheel can be rotated to display data for each breed, which is evaluated in 4 different ways:
- The average cost of grooming per year for the selected breed
- The average care costs for the pet in three phases of life: in the first year of life, as an adult and as a senior animal
- The average care costs for the pet in the event of an insurance claim in the same phases of life
- The actual amount spent on healthcare by half of customers who are of the same race at each of the three stages of life
“Studies show that owners want to know more about the future cost of caring for their beloved pets. When animal health teams educate customers about future veterinary bills, they can empower the owner to proactively plan their pet’s health care, ”added Fortunato. “This results in less economic constraints for customers, which leads to more care for pets and the bond between family and pet. Veterinarians experience less moral stress, which leads to less burnout and better job satisfaction, increased customer solvency for recommended treatments and increased business as satisfied customers give more word-of-mouth. “
In addition to the “Cost of Care Wheel”, the Veterinary Resource Center includes:
- Client Education Materials – Order free brochures, posters and more to start talking to your clients about pet insurance
- Digital Library – Use our downloadable resources to grow your business and discuss the cost of pet health care with your customers
- Continuing Education – Learn new concepts and unique mindsets with on-demand CE courses that will benefit your teams, customers, pets, and your business.
“We believe that when you educate customers, you protect pets. According to a recent survey **, veterinary staff ranked “helping clients meet unexpected veterinary bills” and “focusing less on cost and more on treating pets” as the top motivations for recommending pet health insurance to their clients. Our resource center contains collateral to aid you in this endeavor, “added Fortunato.
