Best Raw: Original raw dog food
These raw food diets are not organically grown, but contain USDA-certified organic products. The meat is fresh, free of antibiotics and steroids with no added hormones. The animals are raised by humans and obtained from sustainable sources. For example, beef is fed grass and chickens are cage-free.
The recipes include beef, chicken, duck, lamb, pork, rabbit, turkey and sardine, as well as game. The products are available as raw, frozen, bite-size pieces that just need to be thawed, or as raw, frozen nuggets and patties. There are also freeze-dried nuggets that are shelf-stable. To serve, simply portion, chop and rehydrate with water, bone broth or raw goat milk.
If you don’t want to immerse yourself in the raw experience, there are “toppers” with raw vegetables to complement dry snacks. An interactive tool on the Primal website can help you find the food, topper, or other recommended add-on (goat milk, power greens) to improve your dog’s diet.
