For the first time in three successful events, Southwestern University’s (SWU) PHINMA’s College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) hosted its annual Pet Power Revolution online via the university’s Facebook page on February 25, 2021.
The annual event, which started in 2018 and usually held in shopping malls, aims to collect pets and pet owners, train pet owners through lectures, advocate for animal welfare, highlight the other side of the veterinary profession and protect small pets and pets Promote animals.
As the only private veterinary school in Visayas and Mindanao, SWU PHINMA also aims to offer free veterinary services and an opportunity for students who want to become veterinarians and meet inspiring people in the field.
The virtual event, hosted by his student Jiggs Alesna, began with an opening speech by the Dean of the SWU PHINMA-CVM, Dr. Ryan Yandug for encouraging students to practice veterinary medicine.
SWU PHINMA Alumnus and Veterinarian Licensure Exam 2014 5th place Dr. Leo Roberto Bebita was the first to speak during the virtual event about his life as a veterinarian on the subject of “The life of the veterinarian” to inspire students.
The lecture was followed by a further discussion on “Animal care and animal welfare in times of Covid-19” by another alumnus, who was the 7th frontrunner in the 7th veterinary license exam in 2019, as well as a licensed doctor, Remaur Herrera, DVM, MD.
Her third guest speaker was Hazel Aguisanda, founder of the Happy Trails Animal Welfare Organization, who spoke about Animal Rescue 101.
The audience had the opportunity to ask questions using the comment box on the livestream. There were also games between discussions. Free veterinary services from the university’s partners and cash prizes were given.
