Ginger, tortoiseshell, gray, white, long or short-haired – the bare Moggy in all its mixed race splendor still has the chance to win prizes.

The Geyserland Cat Club is looking for more domestic cats to join the show ranks of its Tauranga show.

Organizer Michelle Harland says the show has always been open to all cats – pedigree, companions, and domestic servants – but there are many more pedigrees registered as domestic servants.

Showing a cat might seem a little daunting, but Michelle says it’s very easy and the club has experienced exhibitors who are happy to help newbies.

“It’s just in the day because the judges and the organizers do all the work.”

To show off a cat, they must be in good health, a healthy weight, vaccinated, and groomed that simply brush and clip their nails, she says.

If your tabby is shy, it may be best to be a bystander, as Michelle says it is better if the cat is more confident and often younger cats get along best.

On the day of the show, even the most experienced show cats can crack. Confident cats can be nervous that day, or cats who seem shy can shine confidently, Michelle muses.

The cat lover says cat showing can be a great activity for the whole family. Often times, junior exhibitors start with their parents and continue showing cats once they are older.

“Children love doing this with their parents. It is something that the whole family can engage in because it is only their pet. “

Michelle and her sister Megan have been helping organize the show for eight years and they love the people they meet and the friendships they have made.

“We have so many laughs and such a good time. There are so many characters in the cat show world, ”says Megan.

The twins own and feature five cats and their long domestic hair Diesel was a national champion. He’s not competing this year, but will still have a guest appearance on the Tauranga Show.

Entries close on June 4th and anyone interested in showing off their cat can contact Club Secretary Dianne Le Bas at geyserland.secretary@gmail.com

The Geyserland Cat Club Tauranga Show takes place on June 13th at Greerton Hall on Cameron Road.
