Stop Taking Animal Medicine to Protect Against COVID

This is seriously stupid stuff. There are people who take equine and cow medicine thinking that they would protect them from COVID19!

You are incredulous, aren’t you? I just can’t believe there are crazy, stupid people out there who would do this. Well it is true. They won’t be vaccinated, but they will take a horse dewormer to manage their symptoms. That’s crazy!

The NY Post published an article requiring the FDA to warn COVID patients of the dangers of using a worming agent on horses and cows to treat their symptoms.

The warning came after a report of increased calls to poison control centers from people using the drug ivermectin, which is commonly used to treat heartworms in horses and other animals. It’s sometimes used in humans too, but at a much lower concentration, and the FDA has no data to show it’s effective as a coronavirus treatment. The FDA tweeted on Sunday, “You are not a horse. You are not a cow. Seriously, all of you. Stop it.”

“There are approved uses for ivermectin in both humans and animals,” said state epidemiologist Dr. Paul Byers in a statement. “Patients should be instructed not to take any medication used to treat animals and should be instructed to only take ivermectin as prescribed by their doctor.” Of those who called poison control, 85 percent experienced mild symptoms, although one was due to the amount of the medication they have consumed has been instructed to be examined.

Officials say people picked up and ingested ivermectin from livestock care centers. Reported side effects include rashes, nausea and vomiting, and an unusual need to neigh, gallop, and moo.
