VERDI, Nev. (KOLO) – A prescribed combustion sends smoke into the sky west of Reno.
Carson Ranger District firefighters conduct the mandatory fire on Friday in Dog Valley near Verdi.
According to a Facebook post by the US forest service Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest, the crews are trying “to reduce hazardous materials that accumulate on the forest floor, reduce the risk of a catastrophic forest fire for the surrounding communities and improve forest health”.
The mandatory fire is scheduled for 77 mornings.
Smoke from the combustion will be visible from Interstate 80, Verdi, and Reno. The local fire brigades are aware of this project, so you are asked not to report it.
