OAKLAND, NJ (WJW) – A New Jersey rescue dog is hailed as a hero after helping save its owner’s life during a stroke.

Sadie, a 6 year old German Shepherd Dog, was handed over to the Ramapo-Bergen animal shelter when her former owner moved. She was “confused and seemingly lost” at the time.

The shelter says Sadie was nervous and protective of new people, which made her a difficult place.

A few weeks ago, Brian and Sadie formed a special bond. He adopted her and welcomed her to his home.

“Brian felt a special bond with Sadie, as he appreciated her intelligence, reluctance, trust, and wild loyalty once she had built that trust. Brian gave Sadie a second chance in life, ”the shelter wrote on Facebook.

Now the shelter applauds Sadie for saving Brian’s life.

Dog spent days outside the hospital waiting for owner

Brian suffered a stroke and collapsed with Sadie, the shelter reports. While he was down, Sadie stayed by his side.

According to the Ramapo Mountains Animal Refuge, Sadie licked Brian’s face to keep him awake and helped him drag him across the room to his cell phone.

“Sadie was the only reason Brian could call for help. This time, Sadie gave Brian a second chance in life, ”the shelter continued.

Sadie is currently with the family while Brian is recovering at a rehabilitation center. However, the two video chats every evening and can’t wait to be reunited.
