Rescue Alliance searching for donations to assist 76 cats rescued from hoarding conditions | Ascension

The Rescue Alliance is soliciting donations to care for 76 cats the nonprofit group cares for after the animal was rescued from hoarding situations in two homes across the state.

The Rescue Alliance received 76 cats from two residences in Minden and Hessmer. A majority of the cats are genuinely affectionate, and some have anxious temperaments and mild health problems such as eye infections or upper respiratory infections.

The nonprofit group was first made aware of the situation by the Humane Society of Louisiana through an affected resident who asked for support for the animals. The homeowner of the one home, from which 63 cats were removed over a two-day period, was initially reluctant to work with Animal Services, fearing that intervention could lead to negative outcomes for the cats or for the home that was in one was in poor condition. according to a press release.

The Gonzales-based rescue group retrieved 13 cats from the second house, which was described as a hoarding situation.

“The root of animal hydrangea situations is often a kindhearted but misguided person who started out with a desire to help animals but over time becomes overwhelmed and conditions around them deteriorate day by day,” the press release said . “When we intervene, we find that pet owners are often afraid to work with animal services for fear that the animals will be humanely euthanized, but often relieved that we can find loving homes for the rescued fur babies.”

Of the 76 cats from these homes, one was hospitalized with serious health complications, the rest are in the care of the Rescue Alliance and their team of volunteers and carers.
