SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – play ball! The Sacramento River Cats games will begin again this year – and fans will get to the stands.
Opening day comes after the pandemic canceled the entire season last year. Today’s announcement came after Yolo County moved to the “orange row” and allowed live sports with limited seating.

“I’m ready to go; I wasn’t happy that it closed,” said River Cats fan Julia Portillo. “I’ll do anything to get tickets. I always do.”
Chip Maxson, General Manager of River Cats, is still learning exactly what a fan experience will feel like.
Only 20 percent of the spaces in Sutter Health Park are available for games. Season ticket holders are given the first choice.
“There will be River Cats baseball,” said Maxson. “The emails and telephones were on for us.”
“We haven’t published any prices for the season,” he added.

According to state guidelines, anyone watching a game must live within 120 miles of the outdoor sports venue they are visiting.
Sutter Health Park offers seating in two- and four-person pods. That requires reservations. Ballpark food is only offered via mobile orders and delivered to your seat.
“I think this is really supposed to limit its spread and really control the way people interact at a venue as large as this,” said Jenny Tan, Yolo County spokeswoman.
In Sacramento County, the Republic announced that despite the county’s current Red Tier status, it will also allow limited seating in its Papa Murphy’s Park.
The River Cat’s first regular season home game is scheduled for May.

They also plan to replenish their workforce and have around 400 part-time jobs to fill.
