“I’ve had the privilege of meeting veterans affected by PTSD for the past three years who have worked with Dog Chow,” said Bones, who is also the documentary producer. “It is absolutely inspiring to see firsthand how service dogs are helping you improve both physical and mental health through this documentary, and I am excited to be a part of it again.”
Through the Service Dog Salute campaign, Dog Chow has a mission to connect more veterans with life saving PTSD service dogs by continuing to support service dog organizations, including Got Your Six Support Dogs in Collinsville, Illinois and Tony LaRussas Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) in Walnut Creek, California, donate $ 850,000 Since the initiative began in 2018, Dog Chow has not only donated funds, but also worked with members of Congress on federal legislation in support of veterans with PTSD. The PAWS for Veterans Therapy Act, passed with broad bipartisan support in 2021, will create a pilot program in the VA to train and bond service dogs with veterans with PTSD.
The story goes on
“Over three million military veterans have PTSD, and service dogs have been shown to reduce the severity of PTSD symptoms and suicidal behaviors. Unfortunately, less than 1% of those who need a service dog can get one every year, ”said Steve Degnan, Nestlé’s Chief Human Resources Officer Purina North America and also a veteran. “We are on a mission to change that, and Dog Chow continues to offer our support and funding to connect veterans in need with specially trained service dogs.”
In conjunction with the documentary’s release, Dog Chow is hosting a virtual watch party hosted by Bobby Bones, At Wednesday September 8th at 12:30 p.m. CST. Viewers can tune in to YouTube.com/DogChow to watch the movie and participate in a live Q&A with Bones.
