Huron Perth Public Health is looking for the owner of a large dog that bit a child on Friday night near the road to Gallery Stratford between Upper and Lower Queens Park in Stratford.

In a press release released Saturday morning, officials said the biting occurred around 8:30 p.m. and the affected dog was described as a large breed – possibly a German Shepherd. The dog is said to have been on a leash and was accompanied by a man wearing a hat and face mask.

The health unit is hoping to speak to the owner to see if the dog has up-to-date rabies vaccinations. This is critical to the treatment of the bitten child.

Huron Perth Public Health reminds residents to always have the contact information of the owner of an animal that is biting a person.

Anyone with information about this dog or its owner should contact Huron Perth Public Health at 1-888-221-2133 ext. 2245.
