Top sponsors for animal welfare passes 500 million dollars Milestone in grant funding and identifies needs in access to affordable veterinary care, animal nutrition insecurity and disaster relief

PHOENIX, January 18, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Today, 50 million pets in the United States do not have access to veterinary care, particularly those in underrepresented communities. As PetSmart Charities – the nation’s largest funder of animal welfare – a 500 million dollars Milestone in giving over 28 years, the organization is launching new grant opportunities to meet needs at both ends of the line.

New funding opportunities at PetSmart Charities will improve access to veterinary care.

Ushering in a new year with an updated focus, PetSmart Charities is opening up broader funding to improve access to affordable veterinary care for all, reduce pet food insecurity and support disaster relief. Solid adoption support will continue to serve the five million pets that enter shelters each year.

“Today we join PetSmart’s customers, donors and partners in celebrating the significant contribution we’ve made to improving animal welfare,” he said Aimee Gilbreath, President of PetSmart Charities. “The advances in public awareness surrounding the ‘adopt, don’t shop’ movement have helped millions of animals find loving homes. But we’re also starting a new chapter by investing in the improved health and welfare of pets and the people who care for them. We are forming new human services alliances to support the integration of pets alongside people in need. We believe people from all walks of life should enjoy the benefits of bringing a pet into the family and when pet parents are faced with crises, we know it is in their best interest to attend to the needs of the whole family.”

To date, PetSmart Charities has:

  • More than funded 500 million dollars in grants to support adoptions, shared homes for people with pets affected by homelessness and domestic violence, advanced veterinary education, animal-assisted therapy at children’s hospitals across the country, disaster relief and more.

  • Helped more than 9.5 million animals find loving homes through in-store adoptions with local partners – up to 600,000 pets brought to shelters each year.

  • Coordinated with more than 2,500 local partners of animal welfare organizations (AWO).

  • Donated more than 10 million dollars in pet food (more than £16 million) to local Feeding America affiliates in 2021 to ensure no one has to choose between feeding their pet and feeding themselves.

The story goes on

A new look for a new direction

PetSmart Charities marks the new direction with a new look. “Our original logo was known for its whimsical spirit. The new logo reflects our journey, with bold blue and red colors and a modern font. It’s still playful, just more mature,” said Celeste Calderon, Director of Customer Experience at PetSmart Charities. “And the slogan says it all in just a few words: For Pets. For People. For good.”
