Mange-riddled kitten on the mend at The Cattery

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Cattery Animal Shelter is committed to keeping stray cats at home forever.

However, there is one little kitten who needs a little more care after being found outside a local pizza place with terrible mange.

Her name is Leona and the 13 week old kitten has been in the care of The Cattery for a little over a week. Leona suffers from mange all over her body.

“She’s the cutest cat,” said Katie Hatfield, Cattery employee. As if she doesn’t even notice. She doesn’t seem very itchy or anything. She just wants love and attention like any other kitten. “

Hatfield says that when Leona is healthy again, she must wear protective clothing such as gloves and plastic covers.

“It’s just the safest, especially for other cats,” she said. “We don’t know if it’s contagious or not, so we’re doing all of these safety measures to make sure we don’t spread it.”

In the cattery, Leona sits in isolation for health and safety reasons. Workers say healing will be a slow process, but the cute, loving kitten is making a lot of improvement.

“Miss Leona has a lot of healing,” said adoption counselor Michaela Stone. We have to make sure that she has really good hair growth again. We want to make sure she looks like a super cute, fluffy cat and that she is feeling great. “

Staff also say donations are vital as treatments, medications, and care add up.

The goal, however, is to make sure Leona is 100% back and to find a loving family.
