Mandy Moore’s newborn son August and her beloved dog Jackson share the cutest connection.

In her Instagram story on Wednesday, the 36-year-old “This Is Us” star told fans that finding out her 10-year-old pooch last month brought so much relief that she went into labor hours later with baby August, or Gus, as Moore and husband Taylor Goldsmith call him.

Moore went into labor three hours after learning that her beloved dog Jackson received a “clean health certificate” after surgery.mandymooremm / Instagram

“In the flutter of all things, Gus, I wouldn’t be sure if I didn’t mention this guy has a clean health certificate,” she wrote on a photo of Jackson. “His tumor was benign. Cancer-free.

“We found out about 3 hours before I was born and I know my relief started things,” Moore continued. “So much gratitude these days. We love you so much, Jackson !!!”

People said Jackson underwent emergency surgery last month to remove a large mass in his stomach. The dog’s spleen was also removed during the procedure.

Moore and Goldsmith welcomed Gus, their first child, in late February. Moore shared an adorable photo of her boy on Instagram to announce the good news on February 23rd.

“Gus is here 💙💙💙💙. Our sweet boy, August Harrison Goldsmith. He was on time and arrived exactly on his due date, much to the delight of his parents,” she enthused next to a picture of her son in baby blue rompers.

“We were ready to fall in love in all sorts of new ways, but it goes beyond anything we could ever have imagined,” added Moore.

Days later, the “A Walk to Remember” star revealed the clever way she and Goldsmith – a singer and guitarist for California rock band Dawes – invented the name of Baby Gus.

“It was last August when @taylordawesgoldsmith and I found out we had a boy (it’s also Taylor’s month of birth) and we’ve always loved the name … so it was set very early on in our book,” she wrote alongside one Instagram picture of a blanket named August.

Moore went on to explain that Goldsmith “gave me this blanket with the ‘A’ (for Amanda) made from extra material from my wedding dress and the ‘T’ (for Taylor) made from his wedding shirt”.

The couple decided on their son’s name by filling in the letters between the two initials.

“Felt like a very fitting amalgamation of our whole story,” explained Moore. “I can’t wait to pass this on to our sweet August one day.”

The new mom has since shared another Instagram photo of her little boy to celebrate his first seven days on earth.

She wrote next to it: “A week on earth. The best week ever. #This one.”
