A man and woman face charges after Brantford police said officials responded to a report of an animal in need and discovered 23 dogs and three cats that were left untreated.
Police were called to the D’Aubigny home on June 9 and said they had found a dog in “distress” that needed immediate help.
According to the police, 23 dogs and three cats as well as a deceased cat were found during a search of the property.
“Because the animals were not cared for, they have been removed from the house and are in the care of the Brant County SPCA,” police said in a press release.
A 45-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman are charged with causing unnecessary harm to animals and harming or injuring animals.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and they are working with the SPCA, the health department and the Brantford property standards department.
