A Long Island man who was sitting on a dog for a friend was arrested after throwing the 17-week-old puppy in a dumpster and leaving it there, police said.
Louie, the young mix of Pomerianian and Husky, was discovered in a Babylon dumpster by a woman in Babylon at around 5:30 p.m. on March 15, Suffolk County police said. The woman took the puppy to the Grady Veterinary Clinic in Sayville and called the police to report the incident.
After an investigation, Suffolk Police found that Thami Stafyleras allegedly tossed the dog in the dumpster after agreeing to look after him while the owner, who lived at Huntington’s station, was away.
Mineola, 44, was arrested and charged with abandoning an animal. He was to be tried in the Central Islip court at a later date.
Louie is now in good health and is being returned to the owner.
