The West Columbia Gorge Humane Society provides a variety of services on a case-by-case basis to animal owners in the Camas Washougal community. It offers temporary boarding for dogs and cats. It operates a pet food pantry in the community and distributes pet food through Refuel Washougal, the Camas Washougal Meals on Wheels, and the Interfaith Treasure House at 91 C St. in Washougal. The company maintains an emergency fund to provide veterinary care for animals whose owners cannot afford it, and helps financially troubled animal owners pay for basic veterinary care such as vaccinations and microchips.

“We have people who live from paycheck to paycheck. They have an emergency with their pets and they don’t have hundreds of dollars for expensive tests, ”Simeone said. “We’re trying to allocate resources to keep the pets in their homes with their loving families because that’s where they do best. We try to go the extra mile for people. We try to enrich the lives of pets and people. “

Simeone said there are many ways I can help the organization carry out this mission.

“Adopt, volunteer, donate, get involved. These four words represent something that anyone can do regardless of their socio-economic level, ”said Simeone. “If you don’t have money, say good things about our organization. Volunteers – come in and pet some cats and take a walk with some dogs. Donations – non-profit organizations need money. Adopt last. If you want to adopt an animal, give us a call. “

Donations for a new or renovated cat house are of course very welcome. Simeone also noted that personal volunteering options have been restricted during the pandemic and that WellHaven cannot accommodate many face-to-face visits as the cat room is in a busy veterinary clinic. If you’re still ready to help the kittens, Simeone said, apply to take care of one or more cats or kittens in your own home.

Cat adoptions are currently being conducted online at wcghs.org and the staff will do their best to match you with a cat companion that is right for you. If you live in the Camas-Washougal area and need help caring for your pet, call 360-835-3464.
