On Tuesday, Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League, criticized US Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) as a “dog whistle” that unspecified people benefited from both the Palestinian cause and the US To oppose domestic policies such as health care reform.

Rep. Tlaib appeared as the inaugural speaker of the 2021 National Convention of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) during a virtual event on Monday, linking issues in her hometown of Detroit with her Palestinian background.

“When I think of my family in Palestine, who continue to live under military occupation, and how that really ties in with this beautiful black city I grew up in, you know that I always say that people, people, separate people from water “Violence is and they do.” From Gaza to Detroit, “she said. “And it’s a way of controlling people, of suppressing people. And it is these structures that we continue to fight against. “

Tlaib, a DSA member, continued, “I know you all understand that the structure we live under right now was designed by those who exploit the rest of us for their own profit … I don’t care whether it is the problem of global human rights and our struggle for the liberation of Palestine or against those who do not believe in the minimum wage or who believe that people have a right to health care, and much more. “

“And I tell people, the same people, if you open the curtain and look behind the curtain, it’s the same people who make money, and yes they do – because of racism, because of these broken guidelines, there is someone who makes money deserves, ”added Tlaib. “And you saw it, it was so exposed during the pandemic because all of these structures, everything that was built were making record profits as we all had some of the toughest and most difficult times of our lives.”

On Tuesday, Greenblatt commented on Twitter that Tlaib’s remarks were “stunning”.

“We’ve heard that kind of ugly anti-Semitic dog whistle before, but it’s appalling when it comes from a member of Congress,” Greenblatt said.

It is breathtaking to hear @RashidaTlaib claim “behind the curtain” that those who are preventing a “free Palestine” are the “same people” who exploit “normal Americans”.
