A 50-year-old man who rushed to a health center in Palamu district after being bitten by a dog was mistakenly given a dose of Covid-19 vaccine instead of a rabies shot, a senior official said Sunday.

Raju Singh, who suffered dog bite injuries in Naudiha village on Saturday, has already taken two doses of the Covid vaccine, he said.

The district’s chief medical officer and civil surgeon, Anil Kumar, told the PTI that it was “pure negligence” of the health workers on duty, adding that an investigation had been ordered.

If found guilty, disciplinary action would be taken against erring health workers, he said.

The attending physician has clearly prescribed an injection of rabies for Singh, who is currently under observation, said Kumar.
