Mars Petcare UK is recalling several of its dog food products as they may contain high levels of vitamin D in excess of the maximum allowable intake.
High levels of vitamin D given to a pet over a short period of time (weeks / months) should not create undue concern.

Depending on the vitamin D level and exposure time, consuming elevated levels over a longer period of feeding can lead to potential health problems for the dog. Dogs can have symptoms such as lethargy, stiffness, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, symptoms. increased thirst, increased urination (polyuria), excessive drooling and weight loss. When vitamin D is consumed in very high amounts, it can cause serious health problems, including kidney dysfunction, in dogs.
The pet food is sold at Asda, Tesco, Home Bargains and Morrisons.
