The woman, believed to be 30, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with head, arm and abdominal injuries.

SA Health said she was in serious but stable condition.

Gawler City inspectors removed the dog on Tuesday afternoon.

In a statement, Mayor Karen Redman said that community security officials attended the scene at around 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the request of SA police.

“The victim was taken to hospital for treatment by rescue workers,” Ms. Redman said in a statement.

“The dog, a French mastiff, was confiscated by community security officers and is being arrested while a full investigation is ongoing, including interviews with the victim and all witnesses.

“The dog’s owner is fully cooperating with the investigators.”
