Parkrun, the weekly 5km jog for all comers, is facing a breakaway after its new rules on dog leads left one of its organizers barking mad.
Kevin Ward, 46, a finance company director from Suffolk, has quit his role as a director of a junior parkrun league in protest at the decision to ban dog harnesses amid controversy about alleged cheating.
“Parkrun isn’t listening to its own people on the ground,” Ward said. “It’s in an ivory tower, making a decision that doesn’t seem to be very a considered or logical one.”
Dog harnesses, which fit around the hips and allow owners to jog with their pooches without the need to hold a lead, are to be banned from April 2.
