Then she tossed the critically ill pet into the kitchen utensil next to her frozen ready meals before calling the police herself to make a confession.

Officials arrived at Bennett’s home in Radcliffe, Gtr Manchester, on January 19 to hear the desperate cat meow from the freezer and found that she had suffered stab wounds to her leg and neck.

She was later treated by a veterinarian and miraculously recovered and is now in the care of the RSPCA.

Wigan judges admitted causing unnecessary suffering and were ordered to complete an 18-month community arrangement after JPs were told she had mental health issues.

Bennett himself told the hearing: “I had three cats for ten years, that was ten, nine and eight.

“I’ve had them since they were eight weeks old. I treated them like they were my children. I took care of them before I took care of myself. Incidentally, I don’t know how many times I stabbed her. “

She was also ordered to complete a nine month alcohol treatment requirement, fined £ 100 and paid £ 300 in veterinary bills and £ 95 in expenses.

She was banned from keeping animals for five years.
