As the pandemic wanes, pooches may be returned to hospitals with pet therapy. And the patients are happy to see these “dogtors” again.
The 11 soothing canines at Dignity Health – Northridge Hospital Medical Center returned to the ground last week for the first time since the COVID-19 crisis erupted.
The four-legged “doctors” offer pet therapy to patients, their families and employees.
The dogs, who have their own business cards, visit patients and staff to provide emotional and physiological support throughout the hospital.
“It’s amazing to see the smiles on the faces of staff, patients, and visitors as they walk past a therapy dog,” says Becky Uzemeck, NHMC Pet Therapy Volunteer. “They could be having a bad day or be in a hurry to get where they want to go and the sight of one of our dogs will stop them.”
