It’s a known fact that Dan + Shay’s Dan Smyers and wife, Abby, are great dog lovers and passionate pet advocates.

Last week they added a fifth member to their pack by adopting a 16-year-old 2-pound Chihuahua.

“16 years old. Emaciated. No teeth. Etc. All alone and scared at the shelter,” wrote Smyers on social media along with a slideshow of pictures of his furry new family member. “We didn’t want her to live like this for the rest of her life.”

The couple began promoting the Chihuahua, which, according to an introductory post on Abby’s Instagram, were made by Missy, Tiny, or Little Dog.

After receiving some worrying news about their health from the vet, the Smyers decided to make the little foster dog a permanent addition.

“She got a hard hand in her previous life, but we will make up for the lost love for the rest of the time she still has,” wrote the singer in another post. “We’re not sure if she had a family before, but we’re happy to say she does now that we have decided to officially adopt her as our 5th dog.”

As for the other four dogs – Joy, Chief, Ghost, and Mac – calling the Smyers house?

“They were so calm around her and let her 2 pounds self take a whole couch,” Abby shared.

When Dan Smyers is not spreading love and certainty to animals at home, he and his bandmate Shay Mooney spread musical love and certainty.

The couple recently announced their latest single, a thank you note to their fans called “Glad You Exist.”
