Cowra Real Estate puts best foot forward for Black Dog Institute | Cowra Guardian

The Cowra Real Estate team partnered with the Black Dog Institute for Walking, Rolling, or Running in October to raise funds for vital mental health research.

The team will attempt to complete a combination of 700km for the One Foot Forward Challenge, along with a community of incredible people who walk in solidarity for Australians with mental illness.

Mental illnesses are very common.

One in five (20 percent) Australians aged 16 to 85 suffers from a mental illness each year.

Of the 20 percent of Australians with a mental illness, 11.5 percent have one disorder (either depressed, anxiety, or drug use) and 8.5 percent have two or more disorders.

Almost half (45 percent) of Australians will have had a mental illness at some point in their lives, and 60 percent of Australians who report symptoms of mental illness do not seek help.

Principal Lyn Sharkey said that taking on the One Foot Forward challenge will help drive real change.

“As a team, we are committed to raising funds for groundbreaking research into the early detection, prevention and treatment of common mental disorders,” she said.

Cowra Real Estate seeks support from the local community to help create a sane world.
