One couple has shared how their rescue dog saved their sanity, and now they don’t know what they would do without it.

Bristol’s Sarah-Jane Green and George Bukowski have adopted Winslow, an American bulldog, from Bristol Animal Rescue Centre, Bristol Live reports.

Sarah-Jane and George wanted to adopt a bulldog because “they get misunderstood so much and so many end up in shelters,” so they contacted local animal rescue centers and found Winslow.

Sarah said: “People often take one look at him and expect him to be a wild beast, but the truth is he loves nothing more than playing with his canine friends, the odd treat and all the cuddles the World.”

Sarah and George did not adopt Winslow to improve their mental well-being, but they both agree that he has had a significant positive impact on their health.

“At life’s natural lows, a simple look into Winslow’s eyes enlightens us,” Sarah said.

“He is always a beacon of joy.

“His cuddles are the best medicine after a bad or stressful day. He motivates us to work hard knowing we are here to support and care for him.

“It’s a nice reason to get up in the morning – no matter how tired we feel!”

Winslow forces the couple to get outside every day, whatever the weather.

“We’re watching the seasons change on our walks and have a renewed appreciation for how spectacular nature is,” Sarah said.

Winslow has helped Sarah and George get to know their neighbors and the local community.

Speaking of life before Winslow, Sarah said: “With both George and I working from home, I honestly don’t think I would leave the house most days if it weren’t for Winslow.

“I have struggled with anxiety and depression since I was a teenager.

“When I think back to life before Winslow, I didn’t realize anything was missing, but now I don’t know how we would have got along without him.

“Life wouldn’t be so merry without Winslow.

“I would have struggled a lot more during the pandemic if Winslow hadn’t been there.

“He makes us feel loved, even in life’s loneliest and saddest moments.”

Sarah advises other people struggling with their mental health to get a pet.

“If you have the time and space to have a pet in your life – do it!”

“You’ll wonder how you ever got along without her.”
