Cat’s Miraculous Recovery After Nearly Being Euthanized at Shelter

A cat rescued from near certain death in a Paris, Texas animal shelter has miraculously recovered.

In a Reddit post, jujukamoo described how Henry could barely open the cat’s eyes on his first shot due to surgery on a problem with his eyelids.

“Sweet Henry was taken from death row at a shelter in Code Red. He needed eye surgery because a problem with his eyelids was causing serious eye problems and infection,” they wrote.

However, thanks to the incredible efforts of some dedicated animal lovers, Henry was able to perform the much-needed surgery.

The change the cat has gone through since then is perfectly captured in the side-by-side image of the cat before and after its life-changing transformation shared as part of the post.

“Some amazing people in Texas pulled him, sponsored him, and raised funds for his life-changing eyelid surgery,” wrote jujukamoo.

“An amazing flight attendant volunteered to fly him to Boston on her day off (which was proving difficult with all the flight cancellations lately.)”

Now Henry is preparing for the exciting next step in his incredible journey.

“I found him the most perfect family in New Hampshire before he even got there and they are coming to a formal meet and greet this weekend to make sure they are a good match,” revealed jujukamoo.

Henry’s story sparked a huge reaction on Reddit, with many co-users reaching out to those who made his recovery possible.

BraveLilTurtles wrote, “Wow, so many people have come together to give Henry a chance at a good life. It’s amazing. I wish all the lonely, scared, injured kittens in and out of the shelters could be as lucky. Excellent work.”

Droppedelbow agreed, “Thanks and all the people who went out of their way to save him. I can’t believe how good he looks.”

Betbuzzy26 agreed: “What a beautiful transformation. Thank you for everything and everyone involved to give him a second chance in life.”

Redditkot wrote, “I’m glad his eyelid problem has been fixed. You really suffer from it as you can see in the first picture. His eyes are beautiful. Congratulations to everyone involved! “

In response to the comment, the original jujukamoo poster said, “This picture was also after a round of antibiotics. Honestly the picture at the shelter is a little annoying with how painful they looked so I didn’t post that. I can’t believe the difference, he barely looks like the same cat! “

A Reddit user, Shezabel, correctly identified the cat’s eye problem as “entropion,” a condition in which one eyelid, usually the lower one, turns inward, causing the lashes and skin to rub against the surface of the eye.

“Entropion is a terrible disease,” they wrote.

Original poster jujukamoo replied, “It really is. I usually save blind cats, so he was my first experience with entropion. I’m so glad he had a successful operation and his eyesight is restored!”

Henry was first found in a so-called killing bunker.

Killing shelters are animal shelters that accept all animals regardless of age, behavior or state of health. However, these shelters are often forced to euthanize animals they cannot house to make room for others.

Newsweek has requested a comment from jujukamoo.
