Cat Depot recently rescued 22 kittens and two euthanized cats from rural animal shelters in Mississippi and Louisiana. The rescue was a collaboration between Cat Depot and New Orleans-based animal welfare group SpayMart; the animals arrived in Sarasota on May 20.
The kittens were raised from the Pearl River Animal Shelter in Picayune, Mississippi and the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter in New Orleans, Louisiana. Pearl River Animal Shelter only saves 44 percent of the cats that enter the shelter. Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter currently has a live release rate of 83.1%, largely due to SpayMart’s kitten care program, which was responsible for 25 percent of the shelter’s live results. SpayMart also retrieves cats with urgent medical needs from the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter.
After an initial medical examination and neutering / neutering operation, the cats and kittens will be given up for adoption within the next week. As soon as available, you will find more information about the cats here.
