Bean the Misunderstood “Ugly” Shelter Cat is Finally Adopted

Those who have ever adopted a pet know that when you meet “The One” you just know. Such was the case with Francisca Franken, who lives in Germany, when she came across a rather unusual looking cat named Bean on an animal shelter website. Franken described her new feline friend as “an exotic mix between the Grinch and Maurice of Madagascar penguins,” and was infatuated with Bean’s grumpy face from the start. “I saw her photo and fell in love the moment I saw her,” she reveals. “Well, at first I laughed because the pictures were so funny and I’ve never seen a cat like this before.”

Bean was found hiking in an abandoned trailer park last year. Littered with wounds and an eye infection, among other health problems, the poor stray had plenty of reason to look a little grumpy. However, her luck soon turned when the animal shelter saved her life and nursed her back to health.

No one came to get Bean from the lost and found area of the shelter at first, so she was moved to the adoption floor. Surprisingly, no one applied for her, and some people even said she was “ugly”. The lone cat waited patiently for about six weeks before Franken finally found it, who immediately wrote to the shelter to ask if Bean was still available. “I got a call from a friendly lady from the rescue who asked me if Bean was really the cat I wanted to apply for because nobody had apparently been interested in her before,” reveals Franken. “The woman who called me was afraid I had just pushed the wrong button or something.”

Franken booked an appointment to visit the shelter and meet Bean and was pleasantly surprised by the previously unwanted cat. “A woman led me into her room, and what I saw was much more beautiful than I could ever have imagined,” reveals Franken. “Bean was (and still is) so tiny and small. She has very stocky legs and a short tail and the flattest face I have ever seen. I started crying when I walked into her room because I was so overwhelmed. She wasn’t at all what I had imagined – but it was so much better. ”Franken adds:“ A lot of people who saw her at the shelter said she was ugly, but I think she’s the most perfect girl any times.”

Franken and Bean hit it off right away and the couple in love have been inseparable ever since. Franken took Bean home that same night, and the newly adopted cat made it clear how enthusiastic she was about her human. “She made herself comfortable from the first second,” recalls Franken. “She lay down on the sofa and took a nap like the couch was the most comfortable thing she had ever been on.” After a long, much-needed nap, Bean began to playfully explore her new home and her true personality began to shine. Franken reveals: “When she stopped being cuddly and cute, she began to show me her naughty side.”

A few months later, Bean still sleeps with Francs every night. The proud cat mom reveals: “Since then she hasn’t left my side at night. She even waits for me to get to bed around midnight when I get up late. ”The kitten in love even spends the whole day next to the computer while Franken works from home. And when she leaves the house, Bean climbs to the window and watches her mother until she is out of sight.

Not only does Bean have a cute and sassy personality, but she also has a particularly funny quirk – she loves olives! “The first time she stole an olive was when I was having a little late night snack and she ran up to me and slapped the olive right out of my hand, picked it up and ran off to put it under eating on the couch, ”recalls Franken. Bean is so into olives that she meows and begs her mother every time she sees her take them out of the fridge. Perhaps this is because olives contain a chemical compound known as isoprenoids, which is similar in composition to catnip. Fortunately, olives are a safe cat treat in moderation.

Bean was not only given a better life, but Franconia’s world has also changed for the better. “Bean isn’t a real emotional support beast, but she’s definitely got me through tough times and I can’t put into words how much I love her,” she says. “She means the world to me and she deserves all the love after going through such a hard time before she comes to me.”
