SACRAMENTO (KOVR) – Spork’s daily walk can be unpredictable, but Kimi Anderson is always there to lift him up. Spork has degenerative disc disease that causes paralysis in the back. It gets a little easier for Spork and Kimi, however.
When CBS13 first met Kimi, things were pretty difficult.
“He’s still what gives me hope on bad days and keeps me going,” Kimi had told CBS13.
With Kimi already sitting in a wheelchair paralyzed from the waist down, it’s not easy to pick up Spork every time he falls. When Tanya Diable saw her story across the country, she couldn’t resist the urge to help.
Tanya runs the nonprofit Joey’s PAW in Pennsylvania. It is named for their rescue dog, who was found on the side of the road with its hind legs cut off at six months of age. Kimi had heard about the organization from friends seeking help for Spork.
“That should be. One way or another we should meet, ”Kimi told Tanya about Zoom.
Now that they’re connected, Joey’s PAW pays for the mobility device Spork needs.
“Thank you for telling her story. I am so excited that we can help her. I’m just absolutely thrilled with it, ”Tanya told CBS13.
Spork had already stolen Kimi’s heart, but now he inspires others near and far.
“I am overwhelmed with gratitude. I can’t believe that so many people can be so generous in such a difficult time, ”said Kimi.
Kimi had raised just over $ 100 online when we first shared her story. She is now over $ 6,000. She plans to use extra money to upgrade her van to carry two wheelchairs.
