A Pennsylvania chiropractor who specializes in the treatment of animals is fighting a state ruling that she can only continue her practice under the direct supervision of a licensed veterinarian or face sanctions for practicing veterinary medicine without a license.

dr Maria McElwee, whose practice covers a broad expanse of eastern and central Pennsylvania, is challenging the state Board of Veterinary Medicine’s initial ruling in state appellate courts, arguing that because she is not a licensed veterinarian, the board should not have any jurisdiction over her work .
